  1. It's not the size(unless you're totally superficial), it's the style that counts!

  2. It is a lovely size if that is the ring your fiance can afford, considering both of your financial circumstances.

  3. It doesn't matter if its a diamond chip, its the thought that counts : )

  4. The norm is 2 months salary.  Whatever that buys you.  Tell her there is a lot of love in that ring.

  5. That's fine.  Just make sure you also give her a magnifying glass when you give her the ring.

  6. I think so- to me, the smaller diamonds make the ring look more elegant, especially if they get paired with a wedding band that has a few small diamonds in it as well.  My diamond is a 1/3 carat solitaire, and I picked it out myself because I thought it was very simple and tasteful and beautiful. I'm not one for those gaudy rocks that look like something from Liberace's estate sale, but I guess all women have different ideas when it comes to engagement rings...

  7. I will probabaly get a a bunch of thumbs down for this but oh well, I am going to be honest. For me, that wouldnt cut it. But, at the same time it was in our budget to get something bigger and he and I talked about my ring many times before we purchased it. He knew what I wanted and it wasnt ridiculous, and didnt put us in the broke house. So talk to her, feel her out and she what she wants. She has to wear it forever.

Same thing went with my finace, he was very clear that he didnt want a ring with diamnons of any sort in it, so I got him what he wanted.

  8. That's bigger than I thought I was going to get.... I was expecting 1/5 carat, "really wanted" 1/3 carat.... actually got a 3/4 carat! (It was huge!)1/4 carat is a good size....

  9. The average size for an engagement ring these days is .38 carat. Depends on the girl and how much you make. It used to be that you should spned one months salary on an engagement ring. I think that things such as financing have changed that. I actually got to pick out my ring and love it!!! Maybe you can take her window shopping!

  10. Depends on the girl.  Some would expect more then that.  Some would be fine with that.

Im saying this as a girl that would not want a big rock, and really wouldnt even care if it was a dimond as long as looked nice.

  11. i picked out my own ring and just the engagement ring part is about a quarter i think even a little less and i love it. Unless your just that kind of girl (and if she is good lucu with budgeting later in life) then the design is the most improtant capturing a girls personality in her ring is better than just a big boring rock. But then i also dont see anythign wrong with picking your own ring. To me its like teh dress. You know when you've found the right one.

  12. I don't mean to be superficial, but a quarter carrot is small, a half carrot, is more of today's standards, take your girl to a jewelry store and have her show you the kind of ring she likes, and go from there. And I don't want to hear it is the thought that counts, because you all know you would rather have a bigger diamond!.

  13. i would say its the thought that counts but lets  be real it depends on the girl.(lots of girls want big rings)  my fiance got me a 1/2 K and i would not trade the ring for nothing i LOVE it.

  14. My ring is quite large but I would say most rings are 1/4.

Mine is 1 carat oval with 1/2 side stones.  But it sucks because I always get it caught on stuff and end up taking it off because it's bulky.  I brusied my finger at work because my ring got caught on a file drawer.  So sometimes smaller is better for everyday wear.

You an always add diamonds to the side of it later if you want to jazz it up.  My friend got small diamonds placed around her 1/4 for her 10th anniversary and it looks fabulous!

  15. Its going to depend alot on what your gf thinks- If you can only afford a small diamond- then I sugest a pear cut. They look larger than other stone shapes. You also should definetly shop around. My bf was previously engaged and he got her ring off a girl whose wedding was called off- it was an 1,800 dollar ring and he got it for 600. Check craigslist and ebay- Good luck.
