  1. the price could be higher or lower depending what it is, it may be called aspecial, because it is something that is not on the menu, many restaurants make dishes with ingredience that are in season at that time

  2. Lower

  3. Kinda depends on whether it really IS something "special" ...

Something perhaps out-of-season that diners will be willing to pay more for ... or something like broiled lobster tail that's not usually on the menu.

But ... in general, the price on a special will be lower.  Because, as someone else just said, the restaurant wants to get rid of some stuff that's seen better days.

Slap a sauce and a clever name on it, lower the price, and have the waitstaff suggest it.  Gets rid of the old stuff and the restaurant doesn't take a loss on the food cost.

Might interest you to know that "soup of the day" is often derived from the same process.  Want crackers with that?

I've worked in restaurants all my life, and would never EVER order a daily "special" without knowing what makes it so "special"!

  4. Neither, well sometimes lower...but Special of the day is usually something that the chef has created that is normally not on the menu. Example: a fresh fish now in season.

  5. Specials are usually priced lower becuase they usually consist of ingredients from previous days that they need to get rid of. For instance, a restaurant may have a bunch of chicken b*****s left over from the previous nights dinner menu. So to get rid of these b*****s, the next day they may run a special chicken sandwich.....

  6. I would say lower

  7. I dont think so. If it is the "special" it should be lower than the regular foods.
