Question:

Is a s*x addiction possible? ?

My 44 year older brother lives across the street from me. He has had a steady girlfriend for over 15 years, but is not monogamous with her in anyway. He tells my husband about all of his conquests, and he's got a lot of different women coming in and out all hours of the day.

We are really concerned about him catching a disease and psychologically, it can't be healthy.

Do you think a s*x addiction is really possible? If so, what kind of therapy is available?

This whole situation is awkward, so if you have any ideas on how to talk to my brother, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

  1. i think a s*x addiction would suck. lol u go to rehab and then u cant have s*x for a loooooong time!

  2. yes,there's a psychological term for it,a Nymphomaniac.

  3. Yes, a person can have a s*x addiction. There are therapy sessions you can go to for help.

  4. Yes, it is a real thing.  The addiction is not so much with the s*x, but with the feelings both physical and emotional that s*x/orgasms give you.

haha to the first post!  You don't have to go without it if you are treated - they teach you how to fully understand it, and the reasons behind your addiction.

Does your brother's girlfriend know?  Does he use protection?

Unfortunately there is a not a lot you can do as he is an adult and will make his own life choices.  I would suggest you just tell him what you have told us - you love him, but are concerned for his health, both physical and mental.  If he chooses to ignore you, there really isn't much you can do I'm afraid.

  5. i understand that you want to help your brother out..

but bringing it up might upset him and turn him against you.

and yes i'm almost positive that s*x addiction is possible.
