Is a slow jog or walk better at burning fat than a quick jog sprint?

  1. I'm not sure about burning fat but I know that quicker jogs will get your heart pumping faster which will give your heart a better workout.

Well it depends on how far you're doing those things and how long.  Slow jog/walk won't burn much fat unless you do that for a long set of time.  With a quick jog/sprint you will burn the a lot more calories if you do that, but you'll tire more easily.  So quick jog/sprint for 3 mins. equals the slow jog/walk for 9 mins.  About a 3 to 1 ratio.  If you do that, the fat burning will be about the same.

  3. This really depends on your physical condition and age. Ultimately a jog is going to require more force from your body, therefore increases blood flow and burning more calories. But if you jog for 5 minutes when you could walk for 20, it would be better to just walk.

    If you are in decent shape, a jog is going to be more productive for you, as it will get you into better shape and increase your metabolism more. An increased metabolism means your body will burn more calories/fat when you are not working out then a body without an increased metabolism.

    I see you mention sprinting to in your question, I am not 100% sure exactly what you are asking. But one GREAT way of burning fat, increasing your metabolism, and increasing VO2 max is to sprint, jog, walk.

    Example:

    sprint 100 meters, jog 100, walk 100, sprint 100 meters, jog 100, walk 100. etc etc.

    Once you get into better shape you can start to:

    sprint 100 meters, jog 50, walk 50, sprint 100, etc etc.

    Mix it up as you will, ultimately the best way to get into shape is to always keep your body guessing. Sometimes sprint/jog/walk. sometimes jog for 20 minutes, do stuff to get your body guessing!

  4. I burn more calories when the speed is higher. It could depend on the incline. When I walk on a incline then I burn more calories than running on no incline.
