Is a smack on the bum child abuse?

Question

I'm a year 12 child studies student and i'm doing a project on child discipline-How far is too far? and i'd like to get some opinions on the subject. So..is a smack good discipline or is it child abuse?

It's definitely not child abuse. I got so many smacks on the bum when I was a kid and it never did me any harm!

Personally I'm not entirely certain it's good discipline though: in one way, it could be a deterrant or negative reinforcement, but in another, you also may be teaching the child that physical assault is an acceptable behaviour.

i dont think its abusive, i used to get spanked all the time but a slap on the face is child abuse.

A smack on the bum is good disipline as long as the kid knows why your doing it and what thry've done wrong. Don't bruise their backside though. Haha.

I got plenty of smacks on the bum. Too far I think is if you hit the child very hard or somewhere else or worse, draw blood.
