Is a spanish minor worth it?

would saying you can speak spanish be just as good as a spanish minor? i have many interests for college and i was thinking about just learning spanish on my own to save money and possibly minor in something else. is there even really a difference to employers seeing "spanish minor" or "i can speak spanish fluently"?

  2. You don't need a Spanish minor to speak spanish. However, this is what I would say:

    If your major is business, international business, finance, engineering or anything PRACTICAL and USEFUL directly out of college, then go ahead and minor in Spanish. That way you can be attractive to companies that might want to do business in Latin America. I live in Mexico and I'll tell you this--people who work for American companies in Latin America live like kings!

    However, if your major isn't readily translatable to the real world or suitable only for teaching (history, art history, sociology), then minor in something practical!
