Question:

Is a sperm more of a plant or an animal?

I am trying to settle a bet. I think it's more of an animal (like a crocodile) and my grandfather said it's more like a plant (he says the tail is made of the same stuff as vines).

Does anyone actually know for sure?

  1. Neither...it's a mineral

  2. Haploid animal cell.

  3. Id have to say its an inanimate object, meaning neither. But if i had to pick one id say animal.

  4. animal.

one big distinguishing feature of plant cells is that they have cell walls, rigid structures that protect and support the cell. animal cells do not have this.

sperm have no cell walls therefore they are closer to animal cells.

  5. Is this a serious question? I don't think it's close to either! What the...

  6. It's like neither! lol.

It's tail is made up of mitochondria for energy to swim and it's head is a cell with genetic information.

For the sake of the bet it would be more like a fish or a tadpole.  But otherwise...it's a cell and not really comparable to either.  It doesn't make it's own food therefore it can't be a plant and it's not really a living thing so it can't be an animal. (by not living I mean no heartbeat or anything).

  7. are you serious?

  8. Neither plant nor animal.

It is a male gamete or reproductive cell; a spermatozoon.

    It is a human cell.

  9. its an animal cell because it does not have a cell wall only a cell membrane,(only plant cells have a cell wall) and plus its too small to have any parts of a vine on it, sperm are amazingly small so it wouldnt be able to have a cell of what makes up vines which is like at least 3 times its size!

  10. ok, it's neither.  sperm is part of YOU, but since you are an animal, sperm is (on a cellularly level) an animal too.

By the way, the tail is mostly made up of sugars and proteins, and a vine is made mostly of cellulose.

This question is like asking if your liver or your eye was more plant or animal.  They are not independant things.

  11. animal
