WHAT???? NO that would be crazy, people usually hate the rival team. Do you think that the Spurs second largest fan base is in Phoenix............I can honestly tell you its not, we hate the spurs.

I think rival teams stem from constantly intense and exiting games (especially in playoffs or championships), not where the fans are from.  This is especially true if there is some kind of conflict between the players or fans during these games.  The Lakers-Celtics rivalry started with the many Championships they played against each other for and for the occasional altercation.
