Is a star wars blaser more powerful than a startrek phaser?

a star war blaster can be fired more often. but a phaser has a lot more settings.

Phaser, ok so the starwars blaster can be fired more often but a phaser can sustain a continuous stream of energy. It can cut through doors, heat rocks, stun, kill, burn, disintigrate etc. whereas a blaster just shoots bolts of energy.

(Hands up all the sci fi nerds in the room, lol)

The phaser wins, as it has a full spread 'kill setting' that can take out a room in one shot. Also, they can be set to overload and go off like a decent sized bomb.

I looked at the answers so far and there are no fans among them.  That question has been debated.

In Trek-land you have a phaser and a phaser rifle. In SW-land there is a great diversity of weapons from hand held to crew served.  Each has a higher power rating, think 22 pistol to 50 caliber only each is more powerful.

It does not matter how they kill, you get hit you die.

A better answer to the question is which ship is more powerful and has the better engines, the answer hands down is Star Wars, goes faster and farther.  Hence thier weapons might be more powerful, ya think!

A blaster shoots like a bullet. Its about the equivelent of a hand pistol. If you want to shoot to kill you have to hit the head, heart, or lungs, or other critical hit. Otherwise you will just wound your enemy and he might shoot back.

However, a phaser just needs to be aimed in the general direction of the target and it can just make the enemy dissappear, if this is the desired effect. If you are on kill, then your enemy will die, not get wounded.

I would definitly say the phaser.

If they wanted to make a powerful weapon they'd just turn the warp or hyperspace engine into one. A supra-light missile that according to Einstein would create energy equivalent to all the energy in the Universe... Even if that theory was wrong {as in these space operas they do have super-light engines} it would easily be a planet killer.

The Star Trek Phaser.  It may have a low rate of fire, but it will fire as long as the fire button is held down.  

  The Phaser also has multiple settings, from Energy Beam (warm and friendly) to Disrupt (disintegrate at the molecular level).  Even Classic Trek's cellphone-sized Phaser I has the Disrupt setting, while the SW blaster just burns holes in things (storm trooper armor), or blows things up (the planet Alderaan).
