Question:

Is a steel frame or chassis under a manufactured home less durable than wood? Doesn't make sense to me.?

A lender is telling me that a manufactured home is not a good idea because the steel chassis or frame isn't durable. Why then is steel used in cars, sky scrapers, and many other high stress applications. I realize there are different grades of steel.

  1. It is all to do with corrosion and not stress.

If the frame is protected from moisture then it should last.

The worst is sea air with all the salt.

Cars are generally designed for short lifespans. The steel in skyscrapers is protected.

Steel in bridges is protected but fails occasionally.
