  1. Well,, i don't suggest buying your 12 yrold daughter one. Sugar gliders are A LOT of work. Not in a normmal way... but your daughter will be needing to feed them all sorts of things! You will have to be purchasing all kinds of fruit from the grocery...a diet that consists of:

    monkey biscuits (broken up)

1 inch cubes of cooked potato, sweet potato, or squash

Two or three kinds of fresh fruit and vegetables

    mixed frozen vegetables

a few pieces of lettuce or other greens (something called organic spring mix)

3 tsp. fruit juice + 1/8 tsp. honey + 1 tsp. yogurt + 2 tsp. babyfood (varying kinds) + enough mixed baby cereal to thicken it (measures are approximate.)

1/2 tsp. Gliderade powder mixed with 1 tbsp. water served in a little dish every other day.

    2 tsp. Modified Leadbeater's mix

    3 to 5 Gut-loaded crickets and 4 to 6 mealworms each

1 tbsp cooked chicken, turkey, fish, tofu or other protein.

And, you must buy crickets and such. I dont find this  a problem...but since your daughter is probably not as respnsible as an adult...you have to order these things..because you cannot find them in a local pet store..since they are exotic animals.

As for your 1 yr old baby/./ once sugar gliders are hand tamed..wich your daughter would have to be spendinglots of time with her glider to tame it...they wouldn't be aggresive..i mean i dont suggest letting your 1yr old hold it..because if she were to squeeze it..it could bite.

But, i say dont buy a suggie. And the bill would be close to around $500 after you bought the cage..and the sugar glider...and the food...and the supplies.

And you would be ordering things off the internet..and doing all the work.

I say get her a ferret or a guinea pig. or a chinchilla!~

  2. SUGAR GLIDER HEALTH ALERT

THIS IS A HEALTH ALERT FOR ALL CARERS DEALING WITH SUGAR GLIDERS AND/OR PEOPLE WHO COME IN CONTACT WITH SUGAR GLIDERS:

SUGAR GLIDERS CAN CARRY AND TRANSMIT SALMONELLA TO HUMANS. IT HAS BEEN DOCUMENTED IN SOME SUGAR GLIDERS THAT ORIGINATED IN TEXAS AND SURROUNDING AREAS (MOST LIKELY FROM GLIDER MILLS LIKE FLYING FUR RANCH AND CUSTOM CAGE WORKS )

THIS IS NOT NEW INFORMATION--IT JUST BEARS REPEATING FROM TIME TO TIME.  PLEASE BE SAFE WHEN HANDLING SUGAR GLIDERS:

ALWAYS WASH YOUR HANDS AFTER HANDLING A SUGAR GLIDER--IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT CHILDREN ESPECIALLY WASH THEIR HANDS THOROUGHLY AFTER HANDLING SUGAR GLIDERS.

  3. the baby will be dangerous for it too

  4. I wouldn't think so, but I wouldn't let the baby play with them.

  5. I don't know that I would recommend them for a kid, they are REALLY complicated as far as I hear....but definitely don't let your baby play with it they might hurt it.

  6. Sugar Gliders are pretty but unless you are getting one that has been hand raised & is already very tame then your 12 year old may be ok with it.  I would not advise a 1 year old have contact with it. The bite can be very bad.
