  1. is it a technika one? I think thats their own brand...

some players are generic and not country specififc..

as for what it plays do a google search for the model number + "region unlock".. or "remote hack" etc.. maybe u'll find help hopefully. as for what disks it plays, you could try various sorts and see what the result is.

I really don't understand the thing with region codes. I mean I found it a pointless excercise for companies to do that. I used to buy films in america when I went over, they were a lot cheaper back in the old days.

  2. I would imagine that if it's sold in Tesco's it will only play european region (is that 4?) DVDs.

  3. Tesco don't make DVD players .... just stick their label on !

Check out the brand and model number and visit Google for sites providing "hacks" to make the player multi-region (you might have to pay around £3 if you don't want the hassle of searching for free databases).

The hacks involve modifying the firmware code, usually by a sequence like "open DVD drawer - punch in XYZ code - close drawer - press W" .... really simple.

Some players don't have this capability so check the net before you buy.

The other solution (the one I use) is to play multiregion discs on a media linked-in PC running a program called "Any DVD" which does as it says .... enables you to skip through tiresome copyright messages too ....
