Is a tip expected or required after a meal served buffet style?

This is particularly for situations where you serve yourself and the only service received is pickup of used dishes and water refills.

People are such suckers about tipping.  If someone told you to tip 100%, most of you would do it!  Sad.

Yes, you should tip if they're picking up dishes and refilling your water.  They're providing a service and you should tip accordingly.

If someone attended your table (even for drinks and refills), yes a tip is expected. A tip is never required at any eating establishment, just expected for good service.

I do leave a tip for the people who have to clean  up.

I usually tip $2 bucks.  They still get paid crappy and depend on the tips.  They especially should get one if they are serving you any type of drink.

Yes, you are still expected to tip. The person that picks up your dirty dishes and refills your water is likely getting a very low pay per hour and depends on the tips by providing good service. They don't make minimum wage. There is some restaurant pay that is something like $2.25 per hour.

If any kind of service is rendered then yes a tip is appropriate if the service was good.  Usually they bring you drinks or hot rolls or bread.
