  1. A traditional Imperial ton ("long ton") is 2240 lbs, or 1016kg. A tonne is 1000kg.

    There's less than 2% difference between the two.

    The Americas traditionally use a different ton ("short ton" or "harbour ton") which is 2000 lbs or 917.2 kg, which is a far more significant difference.

    Most of the world now uses metric tonnes.


  2. A metric tonne is around 2200 pounds, a ton is 2000 pounds.

  3. Probably not.  Generally tonne means "metric ton" or 1000 Kg.  Not the same as an English/British/US ton.

  4. remove the ne and it sure will be the same as a ton
