Question:

Is a trampoline enclosure really necessary?

My daughters birthdays are within two weeks of eachother. I want to get them a trampoline but the only 14' that I can find (local) does not come with an enclosure.....they can order one but it is an additional 208.00. I found a 12' that comes with an enclosure but it is of lesser quality. I want to get this before Sat. so that all the kids can jump on it for the party (please don't say get a bounce house, they are not available in my area at ALL).

I have also heard of alot more people getting hurt because of the enclosures too (broken fingers because they get caught in the netting, same with toes and ancles). Thoughts?!

  1. you should defiantly get the enclosure, my friend's younger sister fell of one because there was none and nearly broke her neck!unless you dig a ditch as tall as the trampoline so it's level with the ground (lol, that would be funny, but kinda cool :D) get one

  2. I may not be an expert but i think that if they are youg (5 and 9) then you should get a closed in tramp. They're safer and theres nothing to loose if you do, and theres no need to risk a childs injury.

  3. I would say you need the enclosure.  A broken finger or toe is a lot less to worry about than a shattered hip, broken collar bone, cracked skull, dislocated shoulder, or other injuries that occur when children actually fall OFF the trampoline.

  4. I used to use a trampoline all the time with no enclosure and it resulted in many injuries between my friends and I. I can see fingers and toes being broken with the netting but that is probably better than breaking necks and larger bones when you are falling an additional 3' onto a not so forgiving ground.

  5. I too have heard of the accidents caused by enclosures.  I have also seen people break through the sides of the trampoline, like when a spring fails, etc.  So, enclosures do not prevent all accidents.  They do cut way down on people flipping off and landing on the ground.  But if you have a lesser quality trampoline just to have an enclosure, you may have accidents either way.

You may not agree, but I personally wouldn't get a trampoline for my kids.  My kids would disagree!  They say I'm over-protective (and they're probably right), but working as a nurse, I've seen the worst of the worst in the accidents and tragegy department.  I know you can't live in a bubble, but I like to prevent things I feel are preventable.

Perhaps you could get them the one that's lowest to the ground -- that way they couldn't jump as high or fall as far!  lol  : )

  6. I had a trampoline with no enclosure and now one with and enclosure.  I would much prefer a broken finger or foot than a broken neck.  I love the enclosure on ours I don't have to hover to make sure no one flies off.

  7. you can go on google to look for cheap enclosers and getthe trampoline you want because they're necessary. or else the kids can fall off and break some thing because they're jumping so high!!! if you're afraid of fingers gettng stuck in the net then put a type of cloth around it so that it looks flat from the in side but then you can see the net from out side i hope i helped!!!

  8. I had a trampoline when I was younger and we didn't have an enclosure. I've never come close to falling off or being injured. I don't think it's necessary but a lot of people do.

  9. BUY a bounce house.  Trampolines are super dangerous.  I wouldn't even let my kid on one at the party.  Especially for a lot of children.  Even if I had one, it would be closed down for the party.  My dad's neighbors had one and the little girl bounced and another smaller child bounced on her leg and they could hear her leg snap from across the yard.  The girl was 5 and the kid who jumped on her was 4.  It just isn't worth the risk.  Will your homeowner's insurance even allow it?  Many won't because they are so incredibly dangerous.

  10. Depends on the surroundings.  You my get hurt more if you bounce of the trampoline onto the ground.
