Is a trip to cancun reasonable?

Our family of 4 is planning to go to Cancun in late August. The flight and hotel is costing us $2422 (we are from Detroit, MI). Is this worth it?

when we go we stay at the Royal Resorts, (Royal Caribbean, Islander, Sands, Mayan) and we are in Indiana, so a roundtrip flight for 4 and the hotel for a week.  Let's see, fuel cost the way it is today for a plane flight, heck yeah that is a good price, as long as you got a desent Hotel, such as on Hotel Road.  

Also, if you don't already have your airport to hotel roundtrip transfer, or the hotel does not offer you a shuttle service a good transfer company is Best Day Travel.

Cancun is worth  it, beaches are beutifull and there a lot things to do, but the price depends much on which hotel you are staying and how long,  there are very luxurius hotels and less expensive ones.

Also you can visit Mayan Riviera.

If it includes all meals, the hotel is located on the strip and for a week, then yes it's a really good deal

Cancun is too crowded and too expensive for my tastes.  I prefer the towns south of Cancun known collectively as the Riveria Maya.  You'll probably enjoy Cancun, but these other towns can give you the same bang for less bucks.  See the link below.
