  1. Turbo 400 is the best automatic transmission ever made.

If you don't need an overdrive, the 400 is the best choice for strength.

You can build a 700 pretty strong these days, and if you need an overdrive, it's a good choice.

Also, if you're not afraid of some wiring, the 4L80E is basically a Turbo 400 with an overdrive and electronic valve body.   Something like 80% of its internal parts interchange with the 400.

  2. THE TH 400 IS A BEEFIER TRANS . THE 700R4 IS MORE ALONG THE LINES OF A TH350 WITH OVERDRIVE. SO IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR A TRANS TO HOLD UP UNDER RACING CONDITIONS--EVEN PART TIME , THE TH400 WOULD BE FOR YOU .. IF YOU'RE GOING TO DRIVE THE CAR ALOT AND USE IT AT THE DRAGS ONCE IN WHILE, HAVE THE 700 BUILT FOR THE ABUSE AND YOU'LL STILL BE ABLE USE IT AS DAILY DRIVER WITH  4TH GEAR.. THEY ARE GOOD TRANNYS BUT NOT NEAR AS STRONG AS WELL DONE TH400   GOOD LUCK

  3. It really depends on what you want the transmission to do for you. The TH350's and TH400's are great transmission's, but they are 3 speeds whereas the TH700R4 is a 4 speed O/D. The TH400 is the strongest unit out of the 3 I mentioned, but the 700R4 can be built to withstand quite a bit of abuse. Most drag racers don't like the 700R4's because the rear planetary gears are weak and poorly lubricated, but modifications can be made to make them more reliable. The only drawback to the TH400 is the weight, it is the heaviest unit, but has stronger parts in it, which is why they were used so frequently in older pick-up trucks and RVs.

  4. Both can be built up to be super strong.  The turbo 400s are only a 3 speed but are cheaper if you can find them.

  5. Well it all depends on what your using it for. the th-400 is a 3 speed trans. and the 700r4 is a 3 speed with a overdrive. The 400 is a much stronger trans and is mainly used on race and performance vehicles. If you go with a 400 your probly going to have to change the gears in the rear end also depending on what your using the vehicle for. good luck.
