I am currently working for a company in Texas, and am considering moving to Germany sometime next year. If I can keep my job and work remotely, do I need a visa to do this in Berlin?

  1. Yes, you still need a residency permit to live in Germany legally. This may be hard, if not impossible to obtain if you don't have a job lined up there. In other words, I see no way you could get a resident visa to Germany without some form of sponsorship, whether it's family- or employment-based.

If your company has a branch in Germany however, you could apply to be transferred there and get your visa through your company. But your company has to have a legal presence in Germany.

Edit: of course if you have a European passport you won't need a visa. But if you only have a US passport (or you're from a completely different part of the world) then you will need a visa for Germany as I said above.

  2. If you live & are paid in Germany for the work you do in USA you do not require a visa for USA, however you may need work visa for Germany to do so (unless u are an EU Citizen).
