  1. well, i just had a bad experience with my jetta.

    the alternator just gave out and if you buy a new one from the dealer, it costs more than $700

    but hey, it could be just mine.

  2. NO. (unless you have a LOT of $$$ saved up for repairs)

  3. Volkswagons are very expensive to upkeep.  If money is not an issue then it should do fine, otherwise I'd go with something like a Honda or a Nissan.

  4. pretty good if you are willing to pay a decent sum of money for a first car.

  5. no

    very mechanically unreliable

    old VW Jettas are poor, the new ones are much better

    the 09 TDI should be a 60 mpg green miracle

        * Acura TSX

        * Honda Civic

        * Mazda Mazda3

        * Toyota Corolla

        * Hyundai Elantra

        * Honda Civic hybrid

  6. Volkswagons are funny.  Half have no problems for 3-5 years and half have problems from get go. They are not cheap to maintain.  I would get with 1.8 Turbo ot VR6 engine.

  7. I have been researching and found Volk's dependability is down on the Jetta.  For less money you can buy a bigger and better made car.

    I looked at Toyota Camry which is some higher and the Honda Accord which is even higher.

    For the money I have decided on the Hyundai Sanata.  More room, better mileage and more trunk.

    If financing check the payment on new against payment on used.

    The payment may be close.

  8. I had a coworker with a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta and she was very happy with it. Gas mileage shouldn't be a problem as it is a small car. It would be a great first car and being that it's preowned, it should be really affordable.
