Is a weak spark an easily fixable problem?

im thinking of purchasing a 04 Reg HONGDU CG 125cc for £295 but it is describeed as having a weak spark, i think this means it occasionally misses a stroke or something?

Anyway i know you cant really say without looking at the bike but could this problem be easily fixed by replacing the spark plugs, if so any idea how much this might cost?

  1. I would not get that bike, it will only give a ton of headaches.  First with something going wrong followed by the nightmare of finding parts.  I would look for a used Honda or something along those lines.

  2. on a decent mfg like honda ect this would be no problem, coils or spark plugs or wires, however this china/korea stuff is not of high quality (Hence cheap) and not always easy to fix, find parts or even get reliable parts. If it were that easy or cheap, the owner would have fixed it before selling.

  3. Hongdu  quality is  poor

Trying to buy parts will be a nightmare ,  and you may need to keep spending till every day you own it

I would try and source an older Honda bike or brand  Yamaha  etc

  4. spark plug a couple of pounds, elecronic ignition a whole lot more £100.perhaps!

  5. You are looking at a false economy.

The initial purchase cost may be cheaper than a Japanese bike, but the higher running costs, poor reliability and lack of spares, means the Hongdou will work out more expensive for you in the long run (think about it - why hasn't the current owner fixed it?  That's right, they can't get the parts for it!).

Don't buy it - it's really not worth it.

  6. normally its either a failing coil or stator windings...i would advise against it as parts are almost impossable to get.
