Is a web cam adequate resolution to show a concert performer on a screen via an LCD projector?

The resolution may be OK, but the lens quality probably won't be.

Maybe.  With some of the higher end/newer web cams they record with a 640x480 resolution.  Depending on the final size you are projecting that maybe enough resolution.  It is about equal to a Standard Definition television display.  However when the image becomes stretched to be projected the image will become blurry.  You may be better off with trying to fine a higher resolution digital video camera that you could use the image from if possible.  However if you have a newer webcam with a 640x480 resolution you may be able to get by as long as the final image isn't projected on a huge screen (ie 20'x20')
