  1. wireless will generally be faster than any standard internet connection. Scan for spyware.

  2. people may be leeching off of your connection if you don't have it encrypted.  a straight to the wall broadband connection is typically faster than say, your laptap across the room connecting via wifi to a wireless router which is then in turn plugged into the broadband wall connection.  I usually get 100Mbps when I'm in the wall and 54Mbps when I'm wifi

  3. Wireless is about 10X slower than wired connection...As simple as that...

If you want faster wireless then you will have to be closer to the wireless router. If you have the connection "Excellent" or above 80% and the connection is still slow, then it might be spyware/ a bad router.

  4. Connect to http://www.speedtest.net/ to see what your actual connection speed is.  If it's slow, you could set up a web server on your wired computer, download speedtest's software to it, and see what your speed on your LAN is.  You have to find out where the link is slow to be able to fix it.  Fixing a flat tire (or tyre) won't fill an empty tank.

  5. wireless is definitely slower then cable cause its not a direct connection were as cable is.if you have more questions on cabling then i would say check out http://www.cat5answers.com
