as a submissive? Because I have an interest in D/s as a submissive & my personality has always been sort of self-sacrificing. Does this contribute to BDSM as a whole or is it just a misconception?

  1. Not necessarily.  Sometimes your BDSM relationships are borne of an 'alter' ego - in which case if you were self-sacrificing and submissive your alter might be dominant in a BDSM relationship.  There's no hard, fast rule for who engages in what dependent on their overall personality type.  That's the great thing about fantasy play.  You can be anything  you are, anything you want to be or anything you've ever dreamed of being.  I've known people who switched back and forth depending on their partner (or partners).  For example, I have a friend who is normally a sub but when she and her husband got involved with another woman, she is dom with the other woman while still being sub with her husband.
