Is a woody stem a xylem??

Doing a project, is a woody stem a xylem(vise versa).

  1. Sort of.  Xylem are tubes that transport water though the plant. Woody growth will always have xylem tissue in it, but wood is not pure xylem (it has other structural compounds like lignin and cellulose).  Xylem is also present in herbaceous stems.
