I need to know because they told me not to take aspirin for the fine needle biopsy I am going to be getting on my thyroid gland next month. I'm really scare-don't want to mess anything up.

  1. Acetaminophen is Tylenol.  Acetylsalicylic acid is aspirin.  Aspirin is a blood thinner and that is why they don't want you to take it as you would be more apt to bleed.

  2. acetaminophen is not aspirin, however- I don't think you should take anything without your doctor's approval

Hope your biopsy is pain free. :)

  3. I just had the same situation.  Acetaminophen is a generic name for tylonol.  I always thought all "pain relievers" were pretty much the same. Turns out that Advil, Ibuprofin, and Bayer, all contain asprin.  Tylonol is different.  Your ok to take Acetaminophen and tylonol if your other prescriptions say you make not combine them with asprin.  Hope that helps a little.

  4. No.  Acetaminophen is generic Tylenol.  Ask your doctor if it is ok to take acetaminophen.

  5. No it's not.  You should be fine.

  6. Acetaminophen is the generic asparin. I would stop taking it if you were told not to take aspirin.

  7. Acetaminophen and aspirin are completely different chemicals though they are often used for the same functions. Acetaminophen does not have the side-effect profile that aspirin does, does not have an anti-platelet effect and will not cause bleeding events. You'll be fine taking acetaminophen before this procedure. You should, however, also probably avoid drugs that they call NSAIDS that are over the counter (like ibuprofen, ketoprofen and naproxen) as they have similar side-effect profiles to aspirin.

  8. no

  9. Acetaminophen (Tylenol) is not aspirin but both are an NSAID.  Which stands for Non-steroidal Anti-inflammatory.  I would not take either of them until you ask your doctor.  You can make a simple phone call to his office and ask his nurse.  He may want you to stay away from aspirin because it has blood thinning properties in it and not want you to bleed because of the aspirin.  It also reduces swelling and so will acetaminophen, just check first.
