  1. No adopting is not the only way to "help" starving children.

    UNICEF

    Save the Children

    Half the Sky (my favorite)

  2. No,

The Salvation Army has a Children's Home in Porta Prince Haiti.  Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world.

The children home has a school, some children live at the school, only because their families cannot afford to keep them at home, they can't afford food and shelter.

Some children live at home and just come to school, where the only meals they may get are at school.

The goal of the children's home is to become a school only!  They have been able to provide assistance to 20 families and return their children home in the last few years.

    Look them up on line!

  3. no. you can donate to many foundations that help and support less fortunate children.  adoption is great, but donating can help children as well.

  4. no, it is not the only way to fight starvation.  but if you are a couple wanting to adopt, i can't think of a child who would be as needing of a good home, as well as food and medical care, than a child from a country with extreme poverty and subsequent hunger.  but if a person does not want a baby, but yet wants to help feed the hungry, i have always heard feed the children is a good, honest program.  i hope i am correct in this information.  i am sure that our churches are very well versed in the charities which are reputable.  unfortunately, i have not heard of manna world wide.  of course, that doesn't mean a thing that i have not heard of it.  but i have always heard to really be sure of your chosen charity that they are on the up and up.

  5. there are other ways to help people in need like donating money to the homeless

  6. www.womentowomen.org

This organization lets you pay a mother's way through school (in other countries) so the mother's can get jobs and support their children.  I love this organization!  I haven't done it for long, but in the two years I have helped 2 families (each woman had 4 kids) and it is only $30 a month.  They send letters and pictures and you can respond.  It is very cool.  Keep families together and help starving kids.

  7. NO.

We support families in our DD's village thru our adoption agency.  We will be flying back there and we will be checking to see where our $$ is going.  (camcorders in tow).

  8. No, there are many other ways such as donating money to many programs to help others such as darfur. There are many websites all around. Adopting is not so great when you want to help everyone, so donating is the best way.

If you really want to be a hero and be notice there are many ways you can join people to actually go to some poor places around the world. To find out how you can help please check the link.

  9. That would help, very well! But, you can do other things.

I stood for 4 hours and raised money for Darfur.

You can also donate money. I see commercials on TV alot. You can look it up on google

You can also go to freerice.com. U answer questions to give them 20 grains of rice per question! :) I actually just donate 2020 a second ago on it.(:

  10. there is an organization called latin child care.. for 20 a month you can sponser a girl or boy.. they get a pair of shoes and a good meal and a school every day.. they also recieve a birthday and christmas gift the two gifts are a donation of 20 dollars... you can do a lot of good.. so many are waiting on a sponser. and the person will write to you with their thanks.. they learn about jesus and their regular lesson.. and a meal.. the people are so poor many children stare or have to eat from the garbage dump. you will get a satisfaction if you sponser somebody.. they will send you letters with their progress.. ok gilermo..

  11. it coudl be one way but heres another http://freerice.com/

  12. No, there are programs where you can send in money to help feed children in Africa.

  13. Ther's a lot of funds that help starving children.  I'd google donations, and I'm sure a lot of funds would come up!

  14. No it is not. You can donate money to help kids from hunger if you do not want to adopt, and just saying adopting is not that bad, i have an adopted little sister

  15. If feeding starving children was the only motive for adoption then yes there are many other ways.

I have said this many times on here, but ALL of us globally are responsible for making the world a better place.  People do not just adopt to help a child, they are also adopting to better their own life or create their own family.

There is nothing wrong wtih this, but let's be honest and stop putting it on all aodptive parents to change the world.  This is a collective responsibility.

As for what we can do, Unicef and Red Cross are my global charities of choice.   I don't ever support Christian groups going to evangalize, but will support them if their goals is to build a hospital or school, not to build a church!

AJ I think you mean Fair trade not free trade. Free trade causes all the problems to start with!

  16. There are many charities and organizations out there to assist in Africa.  One.org is one of my favorites.

Just a word to the wise, make sure that it's a legitimate organization that you're sending your money to.  You want to be sure it's going to where it should be, instead of remodelling someone's swimming pool!  Like any charitible donation, do your homework first!

  17. No I would rather buy a groceries for someone I know instead of giving them money because then the money is not always spent for food.

As for adopting we have starving people in our own country

  18. No charity is. Rich people need to stop being so selfish

  19. You can go to Child Worldwide and support a child .. by supporting them you will feeed and clothe them and make sure they have a tomorrow. Or support a child at Compassion Ministries

  20. Well...um... I wouldn't consider adoption as a way to help "starving children in need". Simply because most people adopt three or so kids in their life time, so they'd be only "helping" three children, versus sponsoring several  children overseas at any given time... Plus, a person can join the Peace Corps, go on a missions trip where you help a village for a couple of months. You know, things like that. There are many ways of helping children in need. Adoption, isn't about saving children, but you do help them. But I also believe that adoption fills a need in the APs as well. I mean, people wouldn't adopt unless they felt a need to expand their family. I  don't consider adoption the only way to help starving children, because not all children are starving and orphaned children or foster care children need families-whether their original family or an adopted family. Adoption is a complicated thing. If you want to help starving children, I would suggest doing volunteer work for Habitat for Humanity, Peace Corps, a mission trip, volunteering at your local government health center, volunteering at a Boys and Girls Club ( a great place to help at risk children. Spent most of my life at a Boys and Girls Club and it was a wonderful experience). Regardless, adoption isn't necessarily the way to go.

    Hope this helps,

  21. Find a family in a poor village in the Philippines, and directly send them a few dollars. The typical poor family there can live well on $60.00 a month.

Your desire to assist is admirable, however, an even better way to lift the poor is to look into Micro Credit loans.

Last month we helped a fisherman (who's boat was stolen) to buy a new one. (Loan: $325.00) He is now repaying me by delivering fish each week to my wife. She then marinates, smokes and/or fries them, and sells 'em in her little 4' X 8' Sari Sari store, attached to the house. Delicious...they never last later long.

So, he is employed, she is employed, and there is a benefit to all concerned. My wife reported to me last night that she is saving $3.60 per week now, for our baby's education fund.

BTW - The child will be born in the next 2 weeks (our first), and never was a couple more excited!

REMEMBER - A tool is the finest gift you can give to a person. A job is #2. All employment is, is the access to tools, systems and customers. Help the poor by letting them create their own job. They make the very best bosses and workers.

    Hope this helps.

Bless you for caring. (email me if you want the address of a worthy needy family)

    .

  22. no,they have those 15 cents a day things,it really helps people.

  23. No, you can call one of those hotlines and donate a couple dollars every month. It helps.

  24. Ofcourse not.  There are many charities out there.

But adoption is not about "helping starving children in need" (as you put it)- it's about adopting children whose parents made an adoption plan for them.

  25. I support free trade whenever i shop.  that way money goes to the people actually doing the work in other countries, instead of big business.
