  1. Botanically speaking, it is a fruit.  Fruits are anything produced via a fertilized flower.  Vegetables are any other part of the plant -- roots, stem, tubers, petioles, leaves, petals, tendrils, etc.

    However, most people think of fruits and vegetables from a culinary perspective and how they are used.  In this area, anything that is used as a 'dessert'-type entree and is sweetened with sugar is considered to be a fruit, whereas anything that is seasoned with salt is considered to be a vegetable.  (Please note: salting or sugaring is in reference to the item being served on it's own and not as a part of a recipe where both may be incorporated.)  In this case, an avocado is though of as a vegetable... even though it is a fruit masquerading as one with the salt shaker!

    Hope that helps you out!

  2. An Avocado is a fruit, trust me, I work in produce ;)

  3. its a fruit::0

  4. fruit

  5. Botanically, it is a fruit.  It is derived from a fertilized ovary which is the definition of a fruit!  Since it doesn't contain large amounts of sugar, it is commonly eaten in salads, as a dip, or as a topping on other foods.

  6. blah its a fruit really. and a tomato is really a fruit but since its sour the US government legally made it a vegetable

  7. It is a fruit.

  8. A fruit is defined as a "the ripe, mature ovary containing seeds" and a vegetable tends to be an edible part of the plant excluding the definition for a fruit, so stuff like roots, leaves, stems and as such.

    Therefore an avocado is a fruit as it has a seed in the centre, just as a tomato is a fruit due to the seeds in the centre.

    Hope this helps.
