  1. vegetarians can eat gelatin, vegans can't. you might not need it if you ate meat.


  2. Is the desire to sacrifice your health over the coating on a medication a bit too much?

    Seriously though, the gelatin coatings are used for plastic capsule pills (ie: dietary supplements, many capsule pharmaceuticals) as well as in the manufacturing of a lot of enterics.  If you can read the label and not see gelatin or tripe and/or other animal products listed as an inert ingredient than it's vegetarian.

  3. Advil isn't vegetarian. It has bone in it and it has gelatin coating it.

    Gelatin isn't vegetarian, someone said this above - they are wrong. Gelatin is animal bone, skin, and hooves.
