Hey, quick question. I'm 16, and I never developed good brushing habits, I never was pushed as a kid, and up until now I didn't do it very much. I do attend the dentist regularly, and have straight, basically healthy teeth. but my question is: I am too old to develop good habits? I want them to be white, mine aren't exactly that. My teeth are also thin and white at the ends, which I assume is the enamel thinning. Thank you so much for reading and answering.

Sincerely,

Ryan

  1. It's never too old to start brushing.

  2. Hello...Whoa there Bunky....it's never to late to begin good habits and tooth brushing is certainly one you should latch on to ASAP...As for the looks at the tips of your teeth, it's more likely what your seeing in the natural color and formation of your teeth....Many people have teeth that look slightly clear to blue on the biting edge and that doesn't mean the enamel is worn or gone....What drives some DDS up the professional wall is folks that have just the right genes and actually never need to brush their teeth on a twice a day basis. Your DNA (Genes) have a lot to do with the health of every part of your body and that includes your teeth...some people seem to never have a sick day and others seem to have all their teeth way into their 80's and 90's....However....don't be a gambler by not practicing good dental hygiene...Play it safe and brush regular...Good luck and I wish you well.

  3. in my opinion, no, it's never too late to start. don't be suprised if your teeth are never "white", a slightly yellowing can be normal for some of us. not sure about the thinning though. have fun!

  4. well, anything you start, and put your mind in it, you can achieve it. i would suggest brushing it after you eat.

  5. I think it takes roughly two weeks to develop a habit. So if you really think about it, and do it consistently for a couple weeks, you should hopefully be in a better situation and feel wrong for not brushing.

  6. No, it's not too late.  My brother had bad dental habits as a kid - now he only goes to the dentist once a year because they told him they don't need to see him more than that - he takes really good care of his teeth.  I guess in college he started brushing several times a day for at least 3 minutes at a time, and he also uses mouthwash a couple times a day - he told me he brushes about 5 times a day.  I don't know if he was paranoid about bad breath or what, but he brushes all the time, and he also does something else (like checks email, etc) while brushing to make sure it's at least 3 minutes each time.  You can change.  If you want them to be white, go get them cleaned at a dentist, (ask about the enamel then) and get Crest White Strips - use them after a cleaning - it works better, trust me.  They really work well if you use them as it says to.
