Is age 17 too old to learn how to sing well?

I've always had a good voice, but I've never actually tried singing for than excerpts from songs

No of course not!!

Its never too late when its something that you love doing and want to get better at.

as long as you're willing to put in the time to make the efforts worthwhile then i'm sure you've got nothing to lose.

Of course not!  It's a great age to start, since the voice goes through so many changes as our bodies change.  Women's voices will continue to change well into their 30s and men's voices will change slowly for a few years as well.  Get started!  And remember to love it! ;-)

17 is about the age when you can really start learning vocal technique.   Your muscles aren't really developed enough before about 14-15.  Now's the perfect time to start! :-)  Good Luck!

I don't think so at all!  You can never be too old to learn how to sing.  That goes for anything else in life too!  Its never too late to learn something new!  =]
