Is age catching up with Droopys Poirot?
There is no doubt that Droopys Poirot has given some memorable performances for his team in the sport. However, things have not worked out really well for him during the 2012 season. The only reason for that appears to be his age, which is not on his side.
The seasoned runner started off his career with some positive performances in trial events and it was clear that he would become one of the best in the business. He learned very quickly and delivered the goods at the highest level of the sport. Despite that,
he kept on losing the winning touch with the passage of time and it is probably time for him to call it a day.
In March 2010, the quality greyhound made his first appearance in the sport and he was competitive from the very first time he ran on a race track. He did a few training sessions and appeared to be all set to take on the best in the business.
Since his performances were above average, he was sent into Grade OR events straight away. There were a lot of expectations from him and he certainly lived up to them, by delivering a solid show for his fans.
The P. Donovan’s trainee was not rated as the favourite to succeed in his first ever competitive race, as there were some other highly talented hounds up against him. Despite that, he did not panic at all and gave a spirited performance.
One positive thing for Droopys Poirot was that he started off from trap number six and had a clear run. No one came in his way to block him and he was able to gain some early momentum in the 480 metres encounter.
Once he got into the lead at the start, no one was able to come anywhere closer to him, as he took the top spot comfortably by more than one length. He kept on delivering some solid performances at the highest level for his team, but his form dipped with
the passage of time.
The brindle dog can still be strong in lower classes, but there is a doubt over his ability to do well in Grade OR events. Therefore, his team needs to consider the season and think of his future in the sport.
