Is it possible that agriculture could be one of the most powerful strategies in the fight against global warming?

For example, nearly 28 years of Rodale Institute soil carbon data show that improved global terrestrial stewardship -- that includes 21st Century regenerative agricultural practices -- can be the most effective strategy currently available for mitigating CO2 emissions.

  1. Yes, agriculture can be a part of the solution.  The current paradigm based on ammonia fertilizer and petroleum based pesticides is neither economically sustainable nor ecologically sound.  Petroleum could be eliminated entirely in agricultural production.  I know a farmer that uses 3% of his land to grow all of his fuel.

  2. Years ago there was a song with the line "Cut down a tree and put it in a tree museum, and charge all the people a dollar and a half just to see um".  You know whats funny now its take out the farms and put up a sub-division.  Instead of putting the houses where you can't grow row crops.  Now we lose our co2 to oxygen exchange.

  3. no.  one has to lock up carbon, as in a tree, or in a sea plant that sinks to the bottom, to be of value.

  4. Many Colleges and Universities seem to think so. Offering student subsidies(student loans), in this area of study. One will have to work for the state for a consigned duration, then the loan may be fully paid off. I would recommend anyone who is interested to check it out.
