my pets are drinking water that drains from a window unit is it harmful?

they pass right by their water bowl to drink off the ground

  1. Hi,

    During the normal condensation process, an air conditioner produces a significant amount of water as a by-product. This is the water that is drain out from the system and into the water bowl. While it contains mostly water, you have to realize that it may also contain corrosive materials from the unit itself and may pose a danger to your pet. Therefore, the best thing to do is to discourage your pet from drinking the water.


  2. You actually scared me with this question.  I thought you were talking about the coolant fluid until I read the rest of it.

    Short answer no.  This water SHOULD be condensation, which though it may be dripping out of the inside of the box, forms on the outside of the parts that do all the air conditioning ... stuff.

    I agree with Take Care Of Your Cat.  There may be some rust in these drippings.  I don't believe rust is especially bad.  Iron in the diet, maybe?  Or, metal poisoning?
