Is airsoft in someone's yard illegal in NJ?

me and 2 friends were playing airsoft in one of my friends front lawns' and all our guns have orange tips and whatever and someone called the cops on us and they came about 2 hours later after we had stopped, wondering if there was any paintballing going on and we said no but we did airsoft and he's like "well that's just pulling hairs now."

now my question is, is playing airsoft on someone's front lawn illegal in NJ? it wasn't a random person's lawn, it was my friend, who we were playing with.

no airsoft guns are legal, if someone complains about noise or something the police will stop you though...
