  1. No they are not.

They are very different species. Fungi belong to the plant kingdom of taxonomy while algae fall under kingdom Protista. Algae are primary producers, meaning that they can produce their own food through photosynthesis. While all types of algae use chlorophyll, the familiar green colour is masked by other pigments in red algae and brown algae. Algae reproduce only asexually. Having no roots, stems, or leaves, algae cannot survive alone out of water.

Fungi feed on other organisms, sometimes alive (known as parasites) and sometimes dead (known as decomposers). Fungi reproduce both sexually and asexually.

    Extra information:

Where algae and fungi have formed a symbiotic relationship, the fungus allowing the normally aquatic algae to survive on land, and the algae creating a continual source of food for the fungus: the result is lichen.

  2. Fungi are a group of organisms and micro-organisms that are classified within their own kingdom, the fungal kingdom, as they are neither plant nor animal, were as algae is classed as a plant that grows primarily in damp areas. thats why you often find it on rocks in ponds and rivers.
