Is algebra 1 hard???

Question

Im switching from pre algebra to algebra 1 this year and i wanted to know if it is going to be difficult. I am going to be commited to it for like 5-6 hours and i want to know if this is enough to get an A in the class

i took pre algebra in 7th grade and algebra in 8th if you did well in pre algebra then you should do fine algebra is an advancement from pre algebra also it depends on the teacher and the student

i am also a math person so it all varies but test wise i did better in pre algebra not to scare you its just the problems are at a simpler level

i still passed with a 100+ average so its not a concern

im going into geometry this year (i have just finished algebra 1)  and  pretty much you just have to know formulas, and remember steps to figure out an equation...it was actually fairly easy!!.... good luck.....if you did well in pre algebra you probably wont have any problems!!

its basically commen sense, it just lays the foundation for harder math in the future, i took it in 10th grade and thanks to my math teacher i will take an IB math my senior year

honestly i dont think algebra is a very hard subject. i dont think you're gonna need to spend 5-6 hours on it a night or whatever. as long as you pay attention in class you should do fine.

well since I'm horrible at math yes it was extremely difficult for me lol I'm like a two year old when it comes to math but i guess ill have to take it again this year since i failed unfortunately i tried so hard....

"Pre-Algebra" is just a feel-good label for elementary math and has nothing to do with "real" Algebra.  Ordinary math is like 2 + 3 = 5.  Algebra is like A + B = C.  A, B, and C are just buckets, with quantities (or numbers) to be filled in later.  Think of it as a riddle.  If A is 5 and B is 3, what would C be?  Or if A is 7, what must B be in order for C to be equal to 12?  The equal sign is everything.  In Algegra you learn that you can move things around as long as whatever you do to one side of the equal sign, you do to the other.  So to find out what C must be, for instance, substract A from both sides, so that you get B = C - A, or, putting numbers in the buckets, B = 12 - 7 or B = 5.  It can get more complicated than that, but that's the key concept.  Understand that the letters are just buckets to be filled in later, and everything else follows.

There's no way of knowing how many hours you need to study.  That's all up to how well your brain handles abstact reasoning and retains what you learn.  I know it doesn't sound like anything you'd ever use in real life, but you'd be surprised how often you use it every day.

Actually, for me, Algebra is easy.  It's ordinary Math that gives me fits!

Algebra 1 is like wicked easy. But then again, I was this | | close to being sent to a gifted school. Just beware when you have to take geometry....
