I have a 4 year old plasma 42" tv. Now I have a black like on the left side and last week the color looks like I have a group of ghost's playing in the back and all faces looked sunburned. WTF is going on???????

  1. Well, I'm not a big fan of plasma tvs to begin with, but I agree that it could be a cable related issue. Check all your cables, swap them out with other ones if you have them. As far as the "ghost" it sounds like your plasma has burned in. One of the biggest disadvantages of older plasmas. There's really nothing you can do about it....and you may be stuck with those ghosts forever :( The colors though, may be resolved by swapping the cables as suggested. If not, maybe your settings on the set somehow got changed, make sure that the colors are balanced. Hope this helps.

  2. This has nothing to do with plasma outgasing and there may be nothing wrong with your TV.

Check your component video cabels... one of them has fallen out! (You know the Red Green Blue Y Cr Cb things in the back)

Yes, it could be that simple!

  3. Plasma TVs SUCK!

You obviously never did any research before you bought that monstrosity. Plasma TVs "fade" and generally (until recently) had only a 2-5 year life before the screen "died".

In the last 18 months or so, some of the issues have been fixed, but they are still more expensive than an LCD, and the colour ballance is only *just* better than that of the LCD.

That having been said, LCDs and plasmas are still not "better" than a CRT TV, since even if the clarity is better, the CRT will last forever.

However, CRTs are fast going extinct, so LCD is (for now) the way to go.

Incidentally, if you're thinking of tossing the TV, remember that it is classified as "Toxic Waste" and can not simply be tossed into landfill.

    Good Luck!
