Is all natural apple sauce a fruit?

Like does it count as a serving of fruit for a day.

  1. Why would cooking an apple make it something else, besides a fruit?


  2. Yes, it qualifies as eating a fruit, as does natural juices.  If sugar is added, it would have more calories and be less nutritious.  The whole fruit, raw, has more fiber, that's all.

  3. Apple sauce (or applesauce) is a purée made from stewed and mashed apples.  

  4. I believe the USDA would say that it does count as a serving of fruit. It still has fiber but you don't get the benefit of the apple skin. Just watch for the sugar content, applesauce tends to have loads of sugar.

  5. it is a FORM of fruit but not technically i suppose because its the PRODUCT of a fruit so it wouldnt be considered an apple or a general fruit
