Is all the food donation programs worthless?

I see these people giving food to third world nations.

I see the US goverment. And US citizens giving billions to buy food and give it to these people.

Wouldn't it be better to build plants to create fresh water. And teach people how to farm/etc..

So they can eat for their entire lives.

Instead of for just one day

  1. While the UN is basically a worthless organization, the WFP is the most functional operation they have.

I do agree that engineers who are qualified to teach should be sent to impoverished areas of the world

  2. This has been a point of debate even within the US on welfare issues.

If we teach them and help them to achieve Independence, they are no longer controllable by those who seek control, and in my opinion, that is the best solution - but I seek no control!

  3. First, people have to be nourished and strong enough to farm, build and develop.  AFter they are there are as MULTITUDE of programs doing just that -- including:

    http://www.thirdworldcentre.org/gap.PDF

    http://web.worldbank.org/WBSITE/EXTERNAL...

    http://www.friendsofkitui.com/wellsforaf...

and I could keep listing on-going religious and secular projects worldwide.....

  4. And if there's no fertile farmland available?
