Is all the trash that is collected around the world sorted through and recycled ?

I know here, that if you go to the dump, it's not sorted. They leave it up to you to sort through your own trash. Electronics go in one spot, metal goes in another, ect., then all the other goes into a huge whole in the ground, they eventually cover it up and start over in a separate area. The landfill here covers several hundred acres.
