Is aluminum foil save for washing machine?

I heard that to prevent broken button while in washing machine is by covering it with al. foil. Is it save? Will it damage to the washing machine?

Moreover, how about for drying machine?

  1. never use aluminium in the drier  to cover plasitics  it overheats  could melt the plastics and in the washer it stains  from the detergents that arent made to clean aluminiums , just fabrics ,causing  clothes to become stained too.  also if it comes off  in the wash it can block the machine up and cause lots of damage to the machine


  2. My MIL has been usung foil  for 20 years. I would not reccomend drying, although I once got foil into the dryer and nothing happened.

    If you are worried about breaking a button, wash it on gentle cycle.  

    My thinking is, rather resew a button than be busy wrapping it in foil.

  3. No don't use in washing machine-

    * Aluminum foil will go black and dissolve, due to chemical reaction with the laundry chemicals. If using an oxygen or chlorine bleach, Aluminum will act as a catalyst and increase fabric damage.

    In the Dryer Aluminum could cause plastic buttons to melt.
