  1. Vietnamese sign language is somewhat similar to French sign language, which is different from ASL; there are some similarities, and some understanding could occur, but they are different languages.


  2. No it's not the same. My friend who was an Australian tried to teach/talk to the deaf vietnamese here but he was desperated. Almost of what we use is different from the ASL.

      They can understand only "gestures" or some (rarely) similar act of ASL. For example: To say "ugly" my Aust friend made a sad face together with his act, but Vietnamese sign language don't require any expressings on the face, it's only about the hands.
