  1. it a nice way to travel the trains might be late or delayed

this is due to amtrak just being a host on the freight railroad property

that's right amtrackdoesn't't own the tracks they travel on

so they arcontrolledled by tdispatchershers of UP or BSNF

and lots of times freight trains gets priority over amtrak  so amtrak get delayed

thats why a lot of time amtrak has to take siding to let  a freight pass though)

but amtrak is a nice way to travel since you cant beat the scenery

    outside your window!

  2. Amtrak rocks!  I wrote an article about my recent cross-country experiences on Amtrak at this link:

    http://www.ehow.com/how_2311141_have-bla...

  3. Nope not atall, its infact a lot of FUN... I enjoyed my train journey from Minneapolis to Chicago... Its was a once in a lifetime experience for me... :)

  4. Depends on the route.  The Northeast corridor is fantastic, definitely better than driving.  Other local routes, especially in California, are fine.  The cross-country routes tend to suck.

I'm not sure why you're asking this type of a question.  Is it part of some anti-Amtrak advertising or what?

  5. It's a fantastic way to travel if you're not in a hurry.  I just took a trip from Los Angeles, CA to Kansas City, MO in a sleeper car and it was awesome!  You get three excellent meals a day and get to watch the countryside drift by.  It's very expensive to travel by train in a sleeper car but well worth it.

  6. Amtrak beats flying for short and intermediate trips.

No being herded like cattle by suspicious TSA through de-humanizing security checks.

No being entombed in a tiny aluminum tube enshrouded by cloud, you get to see the coutnry you are traveling through.

Much more room, you can get up and move about without having a seatbelt n**i watching your every move.

Altogether a much more civilized way of traveling.

Not as fast as flying if you have to go very far though.

  7. In my state it is. If you live in Oregon, DO NOT ride Amtrak. It's very pleasant on the east coast, however.

  8. NO!

Amtrak is by far the best way to travel in the country. It is often much less expensive than flying, and they don't charge you for luggage. The seats are very comfortable, and the trains are clean. It is the best way to see the country, even better than by car, because let's face it- interstates don't show scenery. Also, the selling point for me with Amtrak is that it doesn't come with any of the anxiety of flying. The long distance routes are especially great because, over time, you'll find that the people you travel with become sort of like your family for the duration of the trip. Amtrak will drop you off in the center of the city, avoiding the long cab ride downtown from the airport. As far as the on-timeness of the train, trains aren't usually terribly late. The corridor trains (shorter distance routes) will usually get you where you want to go within a half hour of the scheduled time, and the long distance routes are great if you don't have a strict schedule.

In conclusion, Amtrak is amazing. The end.

  9. It is fine

  10. Yes its unbearable, and dreadfully slow! I could have got where i was going faster by cycling, and they are late. I always use trains in england, and when i went to the USA i was shocked at the slow speed!

  11. Depends on a lot of things-- the scenery, the schedule, and what would make it unbearable for you.  It's slow, it's expensive, and it can be frustrating, but it's a h**l of a lot more comfortable than the bus.

  12. LOL,

WEll that all depends on what one's opinion may be??

I rode in may from portland oregon to the minneoto wisconsin border, 1750 miles, it took 41 hours.

if you r goin on a trip that long you will be quite tired whenyou get there.

a day later your  like "hey that wasn't that bad"

there is actually normal people that ride it, you can walk from car to car, there is  lounge car where everyone kind of sits and chats with each other, I actually talked to some cool people. I'm a guy and there was some decent looking chicks too.

make sure to bring a duffel bag full of food with you casue the food is expensive. you could even stuff 12 cans of beer in your duffel bag if you wanted too. make sure oit's budweiser cause that's the beer they sell on board for $4 a can.

    the seats are quite large.

the thing that does suck though is that i found it almost  impossible to sleep cause of the constant rocking of the train car.

Edit- i just noticed somebdy said get a sleeper car, NO, don't do that waste of money, cost s more than double the regular fare.

  13. Amtrak travel is a lot of fun.  It's comfortable and restful.  Some people complain because they are self-centered and have unrealistic expectations.  The world is like that.

But Amtrak is the way to go.  Service will be improving and there will be more trains and routes after the election.
