  1. It varies depending on where you live and where you earn your degree. Here, the ECE degree is grades K-3 at the university. At the community college, the ECE degree means ages birth to 5. Check with the school where the degree was or will be earned. They will be able to tell you (or you should be able to tell from their website) what ages/grades their ECE grads will be qualified to teach.

  2. Not at all. It usually means you can teach in school up to the third grade. Unless you just get an associates degree in ECE, then yes, you'll only have pre-school option, like daycares and such. Which, that won't pay, even with a 2 year degree. Be sure to get your 4 year in ECE if you'd like to teach anything but pre-school.

    Best of luck!

  3. Birth to 8yrs in Australia

  4. It really depends on the state. I have an early childhood education (ECE) degree and I teach preschool. However, I received my degree in Ohio and in Ohio ECE meant that I could teach from birth until age 8 (which is basically means I can teach  preschool-grade 3).

Each state has a department of education website that will give you more information on the different degrees. The website will tell you want grades you can teach with your degree. Also, most colleges will know the answers as well.

  5. I agree with everyone else. It all depends on each states education department. I have a BSE that allows me to teach Pre-k thru 4th. Just contact the school you plan to attend, they should be able to clear up any questions you might have on your certification.

  6. Probably not. In most cases it focuses on kids through Grade 3.

  7. As other's have been saying, you will have to check with your particular state's department of education.  It also should depend on what type of degree it is.  I live in Pennsylvania, and have obtained a Bachelor of Science in Psychology of Education and then obtained teacher certification in Elementary, and then in Early Childhood Education.  With this teaching certification in Early Childhood Education, I am able to teach in a school N (which means preschool) to grade level 3.  This allows me to work in a pre-school or K-6 elementary school.

If this Early Childhood Education degree is an associate's degree (from a 2 year college), in Pennsylvania you are only able to teach in a pre-school program, and not in an actual K-6 elementary school.

Hope this helps!  If you have any other questions, look up your state's deptartment of education program, or contact a college's education deptartment.  They should be able to help you.

  8. In Illinois, an early childhood degree and teaching certificate qualify you to teach birth to grade 3.

  9. As others have said in most states you can teach children 0-8
