I have a desktop, model AST180-UD440A with 1 GB of RAM, I'm looking to upgrade my RAM to 2 GB with a PNY 2x1 GB DD2 PC2-5300, Dual Channel memory, but my headache is that I can't seem to find relevant information concerning the type of RAM I already have inside the machine or for that matter what kind of compatibility options I have since I don't have an owner's manual.... I don't know why they would sell you a machine without one, but they do, and if I do have it, it's probably not a very well detailed one--anywho.... yes, that is my dilemma. I just need to know whether or not my computer may or may not be able to handle it. I'd appreciate any help anyone can give.

  1. It's compatable with PNY ram, but I have no idea if it's compatible with that particular ram...  If DDR2 5300 is the correct ram for your MB, it will work, if DDR2 5300 is NOT the correct type, then no...  the brand doesn't matter.

Try going to http://www.crucial.com and use the "memory calculator" there.  It can (usually) scan your machine, get the motherboard info and determine the correct type of memory for your system.

  2. I have the same computer as you and I upgraded to 2gb  6400 800 DDR2.Higher bandwith for faster respondse. Works well in gaming too. might buy another set.
