Question:

Is an Alaskan cruise a miserable experience?

I don't like the cold and I don't like rain. I've heard that the temp is between 45 and 70 in August and it rains a lot. How much fun could it be cramped up in a little cabin or suffering in the chill and damp?

  1. Never been on a cruise huh?

Alaskan cruises are one of the most pleasant and requested cruises. You are not cramped in a little cabin on any cruise ship, and you do not have to suffer cold, heat, or rain.

The Alaskan cruise ships are designed with comfort and especially view in mind. Plenty of large picture windows and plush seating for you to watch the beautiful landscape and wildlife. Ever seen a whale?

Go to www.BestChoiceTravels.com and click on the 'cruises' drop down menu. Click on 'Book a cruise' and choose 'Alaska' as your destination. From there click on any ship name. You can look at staterooms, itineraries, and deck plans. You can see at the websites for the cruise lines as well pictures of the decks where you can watch from the inside all that Alaska has to offer.

E-mail me if you have any questions.

  2. It sounds like you don't have much experience in life so please read all the answers here as they all have some to say.

Cruising Alaska is the best itinerary I have ever been on and I have been working on cruise ships for 13 years. Alaska beats every other single place I have been on a ship bar none. If you are willing to explore and learn a little bit you will have a really good time. Alaska is absolutely beautiful and very rich in history, culture and folklore. You will enjoy yourself 100%.

  3. Well, if you with that frame of mind, you would be better off staying home. I have been to Alaska 20 times now that is 140 days on a ship & it rained once. Do not know where you are from but, 45 is not cold. I live where in the winter it is normally 30 - 50 below. & in the summer not uncommon to reach 100. You will meet people from all over the world, learn many new things, see things that will amaze you, have so many things to take up each waking hour, you will come home wanting to go back to try something else. But, first you must be willing to open your mind & heart to the fact that you may enjoy it. Like anything we do not know until you try it. Right? Right glad you agree now get your head on straight visit some sites, check out some shows on the Travel channel or send for some free DVD's to see some of the things you will see.

    ENJOY.

  4. I haven't been to Alaska yet, we had to cancel due to illness but it is very very expensive so consider yourself blessed you have the opportunity. Not to mention you will hopefully get to see the glaciers that are disappearing!  You will see a part of the country most dream of.  Now, as for the ship.  I generally  don't have enough time to get to all the things I want to do on the ship there is something going on all the time.  They will give you each day, a list of what is going on on-board.  It's so much fun.  Your really never in your cabin, just to sleep and you don't' get much of that cause you always feel like your missing something.  Have a great time you will never forget this trip.  You can plan your Caribbean trip next.

  5. I too was skeptical about going to Alaska, but it was one of the most fantastic cruises I have been on.  The scenery is unbelievable.  We went in May, and the weather was not bad.  Had to wear a jacket.  And people were using the pool when the ship was in port.

GO - enjoy, you will have a great time.

  6. Id rather go to the caribbean

  7. I have been to Alaska on a cruise and also made another trip for business that was two weeks long.  The cruise was in May and the other visit was in June/July.  On both trips the weather was for the most part great.  Yes there are a couple port stops where it usually rains, Juneau, Skagway, and Ketchkan.  But otherwise the temperatures were in the 70's during the day.  It was actually warmer further north after the inside passage.  Warm enough for short sleeves and shorts.

On the ship there are a variety of activities each day; they give you a "newsletter" each day telling you what is happening where and what time.  Besides that you DO NOT have to spend your days in the cabin.  Most people do not.  The ship will have a library, an internet cafe, a game room for board games that are provided, a casino, and lounges where you can just go sit and relax in a huge room (rather than a cabin) and look out the big picture windows at the beautiful scenery.  It is coldest, I mean like hat, coat and gloves cold, when you arrive at the glaciers.  BUT, you can still just go to a lounge area on a top deck of the ship, sit in an easy chair, order coffee/tea or whatever to drink and enjoy the scenery.  Most ships that do the Alaska itinerary have an pool/hot tub area that is enclosed so you can even enjoy those without having to go into the cold.  Then ships also have spa's with a gym that includes a sauna and/or steam room.  So you can go workout or warm yourself up.

When the ship makes a port stop you are not required to get off, especially if you don't like the weather. And the person you are going with can still do a tour without you.

So go on that cruise and remember to just take some warm clothes like a jacket, sweater, cap, gloves, and a warmup suit.

  8. Things are only as bad as you make them.. Cruise ships are more then just being in a little cabin. There are shows and entiretainment all day. Spas and the fitness Center. Many have movie theaters as well.  So there are plenty to do.. It really isn't that bad during the day. Make sure to bring all sorts of close cause the weather changes alot. But you will be fine and I am sure that you will have a great time.

  9. I didn't have a miserable experience.  In fact, when I went, the daytime average temperature was 75-80 and always sunny.  But in case it does rain, you can stay inside the ship and enjoy yourself.  The ships have casinos, dance/night clubs, bars, entertainment theaters, movie theaters, restaurants, and exercise rooms.  The ship itself is fun.  It doesn't really matter where you go because you have more fun on board.  And don't let cruise lines trick you into thinking you'll be spending a lot of time in your "cramped" cabin.  I got an inside stateroom (which is cramped:  9'x15') and I only spent the nights in there.  The rest of the day, I was off somewhere in the ship or at the ports.
