Is an Alpine Type R 12" subwoofer better than a Type S when driven with 300W amp?

I am getting an Alpine PDX-5 amplifier which outputs 300W RMS on the subwoofer channel. My choice is between a Type R or Type S subwoofer. I know Type R is better quality but will it be under-driven by my amp if its capable of 500W and my amp is only 300W?

  1. the pdx5 is a 5 channel amp which would go to your component speakers and your subs. so i would say if you had to go with that amp then yes the s would be the way to go , you might even need to go with an E to get the optimal rms to your subs.

i would instead put the pdx1.600 mono amp to one type R 12" for a 100 dolors less, and if you want two subs go with the pdx1.600 to two type S's.\
