Question:

Is an HDTV worth buying?

I've been thinking of buying an HDTV because I am tired of not being able to read the small letters on the screen. Even up close the small letters are just blobs on my 30" tube TV. Anyways I am planning to buy a 1080p HDTV that is around 32" and I've spotted a Samsung that fit that description for around $1200 bucks. Do you think it is worth it to buy the HDTV or just wait. Because my PS3 looks like c**p on my old tv and I can't read any of the main menu words or ingame words either.

  1. Samsung LCD's are fantastic! And YES - HDTV is worth buying.

My PC monitor is a Samsung Syncmaster 245BW (24", 1080P, 3000:1 Contrast ratio and 5ms response time) - it's amazing! Absolutely NO blurring/ghosting in action sequences - either with BluRay Disc viewing or DX10 Gaming (next generation gaming *check out Crysis* even beyond PS3 and Xbox Elite's) and everything is crystal clear. A year now and no problems whatsoever.

    I highly recommend it!

However: with my 24", I sit about 2-3 feet away. If you're looking for a "main" TV for your living room, that's a different story. For my Living Room I have a 55" HD1080 Mitsubishi set (Also very highly recommended!), that I sit between 7 Ft - 9 Ft (depending whether I'm sitting on the Couch, Recliner of Loveseat) and is perfect for me.

Take measurements for your personal viewing parameters and use the following information according to your needs:

At 32" 1080P it's comfortable viewing range is within 4 Ft.

At 40" 1080P it's comfortable viewing range is within 5 Ft.

At 46" 1080P it's comfortable viewing range is within 6 Ft.

At 52" 1080P it's comfortable viewing range is within 7 Ft.

At 65" 1080P it's comfortable viewing range is within 8.5 Ft.

I hope this helps in your decision - and good luck on your purchase. :D

  2. It is in fact worth buying for one reason I heard that older televisions are not going to work in a couple of years plus not all HDTVs are extremely expensive. What is the point of waiting because after you wait yeah the technology will get better but you will think I waited back then and the technology got better maybe I should wait some more and see what comes out next and youll keep doing that so you will never get anything.

  3. Big Daddy has a point - just saying! I would have given thumbs up - but I'm new and it won't allow me.

  4. well, there is a "newer" company called vizio.....the vizio televisions are sold at costco at a relatively low price compared to other hd televisions. I know a few people with vizio televisions that say it has a great picture and havent experienced any problems. The vizios are great from what i hear. The picture  is really crisp (if you pay for hd programming or have hd game systems). 1200 bucks seems like quite a bit for a 32 inch. You can get a 47 inch vizio hd lcd for 100 dollars more (1300 bucks). With the way more and more high definition programming is coming out, you really should think about upgrading. You will be happy you did. The picture is spectacular.
