Is an IQ of 147 good for a 14 year old?

Question

I'm 14 and we all had to take the test in school, and get the nurses and counsellors to check them.

i got the highest in my class, but I'm wondering how I measure up to other people.

That's alot higher than average.  Depending on what kind of test you took, you might be able to get into Mensa with that if you want.

The most important question here isn't whether you are the highest scorer in your class, or even in the world. The important question is why do you want to know?

Some scores are important to know how you measure up, such as SAT or GRE, since you'll be competing with others for university spots.

But IQ, the only competition that exists is in your own mind. It feels good to be "better" than other people, especially if it has a number. But when it translates to real life, the truth is, people with higher IQs have no distinct advantage in life happiness, career success, or common sense.

As a 14 year old, it might be interesting to know your IQ, especially if you want to get into special GATE or have access to challenging programs. However, your school performance and overall feeling of personal success will have the biggest impact on your teen life. If you need an IQ test to feel better about yourself, you're looking in the wrong place. If you don't need it to feel better about yourself, then it doesn't matter how you compare to others, and you might as well have received a 90.

So how does your IQ measure up to others? My answer: it doesn't really matter.

I.Q. isn't based on age, so it's not like it'll continue to go up as you age. It might fluctuate some, but it should stay around that number. 147 is pretty good, it's not the rarest but it's above average.

I'd say it's probably not that accurate a test, it's abnormally high for someone your age, to the point where it's just a bit ridiculous :P most people I know when we did our IQ test at school had an IQ of about 110-120, and that was 18 year olds. Take a Mensa test or another official IQ test and find out if it really is your IQ, because it's very impressive if it is.

At first sight, the question you asked is plainly retarded considering the fact that you got the highest in your class...a 147. That would mean you were gifted or you just had a really special class.

Depends on what IQ test you took. There are a few different types, Stanford-Binet, Welsch, etc. Good job though, 147 is impressive. I took one when I was 13 and I got a 144.

I checked it on the internet once, I got a 123. Im 20 yrs old and pretty smart. So I would say thats pretty good.
