Is an IQ of 94 good for a 9-year-old?

That is what I got on my IQ test in my grade 4 classroom. I don't know if that's good enough. Is it? The test was made professionally!

  1. Shame on whoever administered this test for not telling you how difficult it is to take something as complicated as human intelligence and reduce it down to a single arbitrary number.

Shame on them, too, for not telling you how people have been trying to (mis)use intelligence tests to "prove" that one particular group of people is somehow better or worse than another.

And shame on them for not mentioning how IQ tests are notorious for being culturally biased (Am I somehow inherently "smarter" than an Australian Aboriginee? He or she may not be able to make their way through a modern supermarket (like I can), but just how long would I probably last if I had to fend for myself in the Australian Outback?)

Ask yourself this: if you got a 94 and someone else in your class got a 97, does that automatically make them smarter than you? Maybe you had a bad day, or maybe the other person just takes tests a little better than you, neither of which is a solid indicator of intelligence or a lack of it.

For your own sake, remember that everyone is different, so don't get too hung up on a single arbitrary number. Instead, use test results to find out what your particular strengths and weaknesses are, then use those strengths to your advantage and try to improve your weaknesses.

  2. I don't know.  It depends on how it is scored.  A true IQ test is not age-based, it is adjusted based on score and time, and the age of the person taking it.  The average score is 100.  If your test was adjusted for all of these factors (which I believe it probably wasn't), you would have a below average IQ.  However, I have a feeling that you were graded on a standard scale for people about 18ish.  That would make your actual IQ higher than 94 (probably a lot higher).

  3. a 9 year old on yahoo?? no way? that's cool

  4. It's normal

100 is the average in the US with a + or - of 10 being within normal range, so he's good!

  5. By the way, at the age of 9, I wouldn't worry about it too much.  IQs can change quite a lot in the pre-teen years.  And 94 is within the normal range anyway.  There are a lot of people who do just fine at IQ 94.

  6. my iqs somewhere between 90-100 its a little below average but you can improve your it by reading and things but you might need to be checked for learning disabilities but not bad

  7. it's good. 100 is the average for teens.

  8. Haha!  I'm smarter than a 9 year old!!!!

Somehow that doesn't make me feel good about myself)-:

  9. I think your brilliant for a 9 year old, so well done!!

Keep up the hard work, you must be doing really well at school to get such good grades at your age, i know i wasn't!

Good Luck and always aim high! X

  10. i think so

  11. 100 is average, so it's slightly below average but nothing to worry about.

  12. IQ stays consistent, and does not depend on age, so gettinga  94 at 9 years old means the IQ will be 94 at 29 years old. 94 is great - nothing to worry about.

  13. You may have a good IQ but you aren't very smart. I didn't think 9 y/o's were allowed on here.

  14. 100 is actually below average.  Put your thinking cap on more often.  Knowledge is wisdom and the more you know the higher your IQ will become.  Next time try for 110, then you'll be just at the average IQ level.
